Good Bible Questions for Church Discussion

March 1st, 2015
  • I need some of your help. Sunday night, we are inviting the members to bring their Bible questions for discussion. No one seems to have any. Can you think of some good conversation starting questions?

    • Jeff Laird Other than the Bible, what reasons are there to believe in Jesus?
    • Ed Chait Other than the Bible, what evidence is there for original sin?
    • Edie Pittard Edmondson What is the first resurrection?
    • Ed Chait If you attach a slice of buttered toast to a cat’s back with the buttered side up and then drop the cat, will it spin in midair forever?
    • Ed Chait If we are born-again new creations in Christ, why do we still struggle with our flesh and sin? What does Paul mean by (Romans 7:17) “So now it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me.”
    • Patrick Thompson If salvation is a free gift, why does Phil. 2:12 say that “work out your own salvation with fear and trembling”.
    • William Brenner How should we approach false teachers?
    • Sarah Van Baale Asked by my 6 year old daughter yesterday: “If Jesus is God and He knows everything and He can do anything, why did He actually have to die on the cross?” and my 11 year old “Why does the Catholic Bible have extra books? How do we know that our books are the right books in the Bible?”
    • Fred Becker Should we tithe? How much should we be involved in politics or culture? Those two will get a discussion going. Can also go off from judge not lest ye be judged. Does anything go then?
    • Robert Pristoop Share the comparison between the Protestant 10 Commandments and the Catholic 10. Notice the Catholics left out the “graven image” part. My people liked that one. Explain the difference in the genealogies of Matthew and Luke. That’s a tough one. Do a caparison on what different denominations believe about God, the trinity, salvation, etc.
    • Joe Maxey Who created God?
    • Fred Apelquist Possible questions.

      1. Why should Christians read or be interested in the Old Testament? Isn’t the New Testament sufficient? [that may be too broad, but…that should generate discussion.

      2. In Genesis, before The Flood, God instructed us to eat vegetables. But after The Flood, He told Noah to eat any living thing. What’s that all about?

If I think of any more I’ll pass them along. If these are too bizarre, accept my apologies, but you asked.

      Regards,

    • Tim White Thanks, everybody. We will get to these, I hope. weather cancellation tonight. But you guys are the best.
