Note from Gwen for December 2024

December 2nd, 2024
Happy Advent all! This is often a season of joyful anticipation as we think about celebrating the birth of our Messiah and long for His return. For those who light advent candles, the gradual increase of the light reminds us of the stunning reality that Jesus, the Light of the World, has come. Yet this is also often a season of darkness. There is no shortage of things over which our hearts ache, and we are keenly aware that this world is not ultimately our home. Whether this newsletter finds you rejoicing in the Light of the World or feeling overcome . . .

HAPPY TEN-YEAR ANNIVERSARY!! Check out these stories from fellow Answer Team volunteers, and be encouraged! Christopher Schwinger (January 2014): My pastor from the church I attended in Kansas City, Scott Sundin, who went to Calvary Bible College around the time Shea (Got Questions’ founder) did, had a congregant named Darline Metsker who was a volunteer for Got Questions, and he recommended I pursue being a volunteer.  She passed away in 2023 and my pastor encouraged me to pursue the ministry in 2013.  Even though I had once done . . .

Happy October, all! In the US, this is designated as "Pastor Appreciation Month." So, first, a hearty thank you to all of the pastors on our team. We so appreciate what you do for your local flocks. Your hearts to love, lead, teach, and serve are evident in what you do for our questioners as well. And that same heart of love, integrity to God's Word, and service is evident throughout our volunteer team, regardless of vocational role. So thank you each for serving with us and sharing the truth of God's Word with compassion for questioners! It's . . .

Thank you for taking the time to respond kindly to my concerns! I will definitely be thinking about what you said. Thanks again for taking the time to respond! Just wanted to say thank you for the depth of the answer you gave to my question. I found the reference to Hebrews 11 in particular very helpful, and appreciated engaging with many aspects of quite a large question. I feel a bit better about it now, and will continue to explore the depths of it but found this a very helpful first step, so thank you I just want to say thank you for . . .

Autumn will officially begin this month, and for many of us that means so will various groups and activities. Often the beginning of new things or return to routine brings a welcomed sense of normalcy. It's good to be back with friends and to perhaps more intentionally re-engage our minds. What strikes me is the "first-day-of-school" sense of anticipation that seems to be retained through adulthood. What might be in store in the new? What growth will spark from a return to groups that took a summer break? It's often a joy to wonder and look ahead . . .
