Discussion on Witnessing to Family Members

March 1st, 2015

How did you guys share the gospel with your family? I am finding it hard to do so. I do not think my family outright rejects Jesus like an atheist would,I guess the best word to describe them is as being lukewarm. I pray every night that they would come to the faith and I use other “measures” to try and guide them in the right direction( since other faiths(JW,Mormons etc.) are active in trying to draw them away from God) . These measures include:

1) Giving them Got Questions’ website so they would be able to see answers to any possible questions they have
2) Sometimes they have questions about biblical characters so I use this as an opportunity to drag on a conversation about God rather than answering their question.
3) I also show them videos about God

NB:I prefer to talk to them one on one rather than making an announcement. I also find myself praying to God so that he can bring about more “situations” which I could use to tell them about him.

A personal relationship with Jesus the Creator of things will bring them extreme joy and I yearn for them to experience that indescribable joy.

  • You, Ed Chait and Gina Cook like this.
  • Kristen Rasor Just witness to them like you would anyone else, by showing them their need for a Savior. A couple of good resources to check out:www.NeedGod.com and www.HellsBestKeptSecret.com. Praying for them.

Will your good outweigh your bad? Are you a good person? Do you need God? Take this quick test and see.

  • Gina Cook First of all I lift you and your family up in prayer- this is something I relate to very much. I agree with Kristen. Remember they will not see until The Lord opens their eyes so do not think you are failing when they do not respond – just keep persevering in sharing with them the truth of sin and their need for the Savior Jesus Christ and keep praying for them
  • Ed Chait I agree with Kristen and Gina. It’s much harder for us to be “objective” for lack of a better word with family because we have a different type of love for them. My dad is 90 and isn’t saved and I often feel like I haven’t done enough but I have to rSee More
  • Patrick Thompson Always hard to witness to family members, but God does not want them to perish without knowing Him. Continue to be consistent in your prayers for them that God will change the condition of their hearts to be that soil that is cultivated and ready for the good seed that will produce a harvest of reward. It always has to be God who draws them to Him. Also, you might want to check out “The Way of The Master” for some suggestions in witnessing to family members.
  • Dale Agner Great question… I opened more doors of reconciliation when I thoroughly went through my past and identified where I may have hurt or offended an individual family member…and asked them specifically for forgiveness.
  • Heath Tibbetts Big presentation and then small moments. Our family knows the gospel: now I regularly tell lost ones I’m praying for them, or share a scripture or something small. It’s all Holy Spirit work now!
  • Marilyn Mcclintock After numerous times of sharing my personal testimony and the gospel verbally and in written form, we were informed that my dad and step-mom didn’t want to hear it anymore. So, I told my immediate family, “We just have to live it before them from now on.” God used our lives to convince my step-mom on her death-bed that Jesus is the only way to eternal life, apart from good works. I had the joy of leading her to Christ two weeks before she died using Eph. 2:8-9, Her conversion was unlike any I have experienced before! God made it clear to me that as long as a person has breath, He is still answering those faithful prayers on their behalf. PTL.
