Question on the purpose of Candlelight services

I am working on my next radio program and would like some input from the best Christian writers in the world. Since I don't have that avenue available to me, I will ask you guys, Questions: What is the purpose we want to achieve in a candlelight service at Christmas? What does it mean to you? What would you want it to accomplish?

I just submitted an answer regarding John the Baptist's motivation for sending his disciples to ask Jesus if He was the Messiah and thought I would post it for your feedback and thoughts.
Question 372043: Why did John the Bapstist asked his disciples to asked Jesus was he the one or should we wait for another? Was this doubt and why? God Bless
