Question on describing the Trinity

January 22nd, 2016

How would you describe the Trinity as simply as possible?

Edie Pittard Edmondson
Edie Pittard Edmondson As simply as possible? An egg? Three parts, but one whole thing. Each part has it’s role, just like the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Easiest way I know.

Pstr Richard J Rizzi
Pstr Richard J Rizzi I use a peach… Same reason.

Ed Chait
Ed Chait There is one God who consists of three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, each equally and fully God.

Jeff Laird
Jeff Laird Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are like my Brain, Words, and Thoughts. They’re all “me”, and they’re all unified, but they serve different purposes.

Steve Ray Webb
Steve Ray Webb It took men 1500 years to come up with a description of the Trinity in the Nicene Creed. And even then the description there continues to be debated. I prefer to just use biblical language in describing the Father, Son and Holy Spirit (the word trinity is not even in the Bible). Our finite human understanding is not capable of fully understanding this 3-part relationship.

Adam Davis
Adam Davis God is One in essence and three in Person. One ‘what’, three ‘who’. There is a difference between essence/nature and personhood.

Hope McCullough
Hope McCullough Thanks guy. I am witnessing to an Atheist and answering his questions. This is one he asked about. It’s not that I dont know, but it can be hard to describe.

Adam Davis
Adam Davis Hope, in my experience defining terms is critical in dialogue. Once you can establish the meaning behind the words used, the doctrine becomes less of a barrier for the nontheist. It may also help to define what a contradiction is and what it is not, so as to avoid having to answer that objection about the Trinity.

Hope McCullough
Hope McCullough At this point, he is just asking questions. He still maintains that he is right and I am wrong. All I’m hoping to do is give him a clear understanding of God, Jesus, and the bible and plant the seed.

Christopher Dupre The diagram at the bottom of the article is very helpful.http://www.gotquestions.org/Trinity-Bible.html

What does the Bible teach about the Trinity / Triunity?…

Deb Whittier Newman
Deb Whittier Newman I had a hard time with the concept, myself, until I read The Shack. I know it’s fiction, but it brought the concept of 3-in-1 more to light for me. But explain it? Yipes!

Marilyn Mcclintock
Marilyn Mcclintock Very simply…The family is made up of a father, mother, and child. Three distinct individuals…one family.

Timothy Craig Munger
Timothy Craig Munger A limerick put it like this: “Three in One, One in Three; The One in the Middle Died for me.” Ultimately most human comparisons fall short. In 1 Thessalonians 5:23 the closest we come to illustrating the godhead. We have three parts, spirit, soul, and body.

Corpuz Valdemor Avellaneda Ramil
Corpuz Valdemor Avellaneda Ramil It can’t be understood by those without the Spirit of God for this teaching is about the nature of God. No simple things for carnal men but when I teach this I start from Genesis 1:26 “Elohim” then support it with John 1:1, 14 to prove that God the Father has companions from the beginning and that is Christ and the Holy Spirit.

Joe Maxey
Joe Maxey “Elohim” is the right place to start, in my humble opinion. It’s the “plural” word for God. Genesis 1:26 ” Let US make man in our own image…” (caps mine)

Byron Earnheart
Byron Earnheart Wasn’t it st Patrick who used the 3 leaved clover? Regardless, I use that in my own mind.

Joe Maxey
Joe Maxey As to my first post, The “Doctrine” of the Trinity has been around long before the Theological definition and study came about! The Hebrews had the Word before the concept! God has revealed HImself (s) since time began to man. The concept is difficult because it is a super-natural concept…nothing like it (the relationship of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit) occurs anywhere else. To try to explain it to an unbeliever is folly. We know it is true by Faith! God’s Word is “our proof”!
