Help with Question on What it Means that the Word is Alive

October 16th, 2015

Just got a GREAT question. Would love some insight from you all. My contact asked, ” What does it mean the word of God being alive? What is the importance of it being alive over just being the normal words that although being alive or otherwise (not sure), also have profound effect on people’s characters and values?”

Corpuz Valdemor Avellaneda Ramil
Corpuz Valdemor Avellaneda Ramil The Word of God is authored by the Spirit. When it is sown, the Spirit of God works through it. The Spirit and the pure Word of God cannot be separated for Jesus said it is through the words of Him and the Father that the Holy Spirit regenerates, calls, indwells, teaches, calls and sanctifies… it is in this sense that the Word of God is alive and active.

Robert Lowry
Robert Lowry Maybe it’s enough to just point out that the Word of God says of itself it is alive, Hebrews 4:12.

Julie Kimani
Julie Kimani I was thinking of John 1:1-5 to help explain, but seem to be lacking just the right words. I like how you put it Corpuz.

Alyson Dreyer
Alyson Dreyer Jesus is the Word. He is God. And he is alive and well.

Corpuz Valdemor Avellaneda Ramil
Corpuz Valdemor Avellaneda Ramil Jesus as “the Word” (logos) in John 1:1 means that Jesus is the Message as well as the Messenger of God. John wrote to the believers’ minds influenced by Greek culture. For the Greeks, they can’t approach their deities directly. They need a message and a messenger from a “god.” Thus in that frame of understanding, John introduces Christ as God being One with Him from eternity as both God’s Message and God’s Messenger NOT literal “Word” as we understand it today.

Patrick Thompson
Patrick Thompson The Mighty Word of God is already settled in Heaven (Ps. 119:89; Isa. 40:8; 1st Pet. 1:24-25). Yet it is not a stagnant or inactive word; it is dynamic and powerful (Heb. 4:12), and it accomplishes great things(Isa. 55:11). The Word of God is the creative Word. According to the creation account, thing came into existence when God spoke His word (Gen. 1:3-4, 6-7, 9).
