October 16th, 2014

Are any of you familiar with “prophetic preaching”? I got a question about it on Twitter – so a 140 character explanation of it would be helpful .

  • Elizabeth DeVore The way my friends use it, it means to exhort or encourage people to do the right thing, especially when it’s hard. As opposed to fluffy bunny stuff. It’s a challenge to reach people and engage the culture. Trydownshoredrift.com

  • Sarah Van Baale Within certain denominations or even cultures, it can refer to a “pastor” “preacher” “bishop” “prophet” “prophetess” “apostle” etc. who stands up front and prophesies over people. In other words, many of these people have self proclaimed titles and claim to hear directly from God. Frequently it is accompanied by speaking in tongues and a lot of emotional outpouring. However, I think you really have to know where the person is coming from. If a person who identifies with a baptist church were asking, I might answer similarly to Elizabeth. However, if a person from a charismatic church were posing the question, likely they’re referring to what I described above.
