We explain this value as, “Serving and ministering to all people with gentleness and respect and communicating the truth in love.” The Q&A system has the unique capacity to serve people one-on-one, and it is thus a crucial avenue for living out this value. Every questioner you interact with is created in the image of God and in need of His love and truth. You all do an excellent job of caring for questioners. Here are some reminders of what that looks like:
- Pray for questioners. Ultimately, each questioner needs what the Lord has for them in the interaction. Ask God to guide you and use you to have an impact on this person’s life for His glory.
- Pray for yourself. Ask God to direct your response so that it conveys truth clearly and in a way the questioner will receive it.
- Remember that your response is being sent to one individual; be personable in your tone just as you would in a one-on-one, in-person interaction.
- Believe the best about questioners. Until a questioner gives clear evidence otherwise, treat every inquiry as genuine.
- Write to your audience. If profile information is included, consider how a person in that demographic will understand your answer and tailor it appropriately.
- Rephrase the questioner’s inquiry as a form of active listening and to help ensure clear communication.
- When a questioner shares a personal situation, express empathy.
- Share personal stories, practical advice, and additional resources when appropriate. These can help with the person-to-person connection and demonstrate genuine care for questioners.
As I often say, thank you for caring for our questioners so well. Your love for the people you serve through the Q&A system is so evident, and we so appreciate it!
