On October 7th, knowing of the attacks on Israel, we decided to press ahead and fly out to Jordan, as scheduled, for a ten-day Jordan/Israel tour. We did not know what God had in store for our time. Thanks to God’s provision and the prayers of many, we were able to stay safely in Jordan touring and resting until our return home on October 18th.
During our time we were able to see Jerash, Petra, the Red Sea in Aqaba, Wadi Rum, Mount Nebo, a dig site that some think could be the biblical Sodom, parts of the Jordan River, and the Dead Sea. We could picture the Israelites’ wilderness wandering as we journeyed through the desert. We could see how truly unique a “land flowing with milk and honey” is. Deuteronomy 2 and Deuteronomy 34 came to life in new ways.
We also had time for personal connection, meaningful conversations, and needed rest. Though it was incredibly strange to be having interesting experiences and enjoying lush accommodations in the midst of chaos and devastation, we are so grateful for all that God entrusted to us in the experience. Psalm 23 and Psalm 46 came to life in new ways. We felt encompassed by God’s care. No doubt He touched each of us in ways that we are still not yet aware of.
At several places we could look out over Israel. As a group we were able to pray for all the people involved in this conflict. We prayed for the many who need Jesus and for the many who need God’s comfort and peace. One of the pastors on the trip gave a devotional that prompted us to praise God for His faithfulness to accomplish His good purposes in all things (Romans 8:28; 2 Peter 3:9). We are in awe of God’s faithfulness and goodness, no matter the circumstances. We are so grateful for your prayers for us and for all that God entrusted to us during this time. And we are praying for the nations as the conflict in Israel continues to unfold. We know God is sovereign and He will fulfill His plans.
