Reminders on Answering Questions

June 2nd, 2017

Just a few things to remember as we head into summer:
– Summer brings about travel, out of town guests, and stay-cations for many. If you will be unavailable to answer questions for any reason, please be sure to let us know so we can mark you out.
– If you receive a question that you will not have time to answer, do not know how to answer, or do not want to answer, please request reassignment as soon as possible. The due dates on questions do not change, so we need to reassign them as soon as possible to give the next writer enough time to respond by the due date.
– Please remember to answer the actual question asked. It’s great to read between the lines and speak to the heart of the issue or the broader topics involved, but make sure to also answer the question.
– Please be kind to questioners and give them the benefit of the doubt. We know that some of the questions seem ridiculous. Some of the questioners may not be genuine in their inquiries. But sometimes a question sounds silly or like it’s looking for an argument when the person is genuinely confused. Pray for discernment, and also strive to respond with both truth and grace. You can always contact us if you have questions or want another opinion on where the questioner might be coming from.
– Please consider any profile information provided with the question. Not all questioners give profile information, but many do. Please especially be aware of questioners who are under 18 and remember that you are responding to a teen. Often the way a question is worded will also give hints as to the person’s level of understanding and even their personality.
– Sometimes questioners will inquire about an article without providing a link or explicitly stating that’s what they are doing. So if a questioner says something akin to “you said …” and it is not a follow-up question, searching the article database might help. You can also ask the questioner to clarify.
– Always feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns. Our volunteers do great work and we are so thankful for you. Thank you for letting God work through you to speak truth and encouragement into the lives of our questioners.
