From a writer about the Wise Men

The arrival of the wise men (Matthew 2:7-11).

The wise men that came from the eastern lands represented the great heart of the world bearing witness to Jesus Christ. Legend has it that there were 3 men, and each were a king, priest and prophet.

The three gifts presented legendarily represent the three downsides to mankind and his world.

Gold:
This represents the riches of the world and our love for money, material gain, wealth and status. May we cast all of these things aside and bow a knee to Christ.

Frankincense:
This represented worship even man’s worship of the world and therefore it was laid down at the feet of Jesus to represent that He is to be worshipped alone.

Myrrh:
This represented sorrow, as it was used to anoint the dead. O may we cast our sorrows/burdens upon The Lord that He may sustain us (Psalm 55:22).

The child, the babe, this name He also bears. Thank God our King has the spirit of a child. Jesus is crowned and enthroned in tenderness, meekness, humility and self-sacrificing love. Although He is King of kings and Lord of lords, He is as accessible, as simple and as lowly as a little child.

He has come to us in a lowly disguise as the Babe of Bethlehem, the homeless wanderer, and the crucified of Calvary. But He will return in all His Majesty and Glory as the King of all kings and the Lord of all lords, and only those who accept Jesus in His humiliation will be with Him in His Kingdom. We must learn, like Joseph the son of Jacob, to pass from the depths to the heights; in like manner, we must go with Jesus from the manger to the throne.

Be encouraged brothers and sisters.
