Employee of the Month: MELISSA HOUDMANN

November 2nd, 2014

We realized we never formally introduced you all to MeLissa Houdmann, Shea’s wife, longtime officemate, and now officially a staff member of GotQuestions.org. She’s pretty great 🙂

MeLissa was raised in Iowa where her parents managed Raccoon River Bible Camp, a Christian summer camp for kids and teens. She enjoyed her childhood very much and learned the value of hard work. As a child, she accepted God’s gift of salvation and began growing in Him.

MeLissa later attended Calvary Bible College in Kansas City, MO, receiving a degree in Christian Ministries/Journalism. While at Calvary, she met Shea and they were married in 1997. She worked for six years at Stonecroft Ministries where she wrote and revised Bible study curriculum. During that time, Shea and MeLissa started developing a hobby in their spare time—answering people’s Bible question online. Over time, God grew that hobby into GotQuestions.org.

The couple moved to Colorado Springs in 2004 in order to coordinate efforts and learn from another internet ministry. MeLissa worked as Managing Editor for All About GOD Ministries for 10 years and also served as a volunteer and board member for GotQuestions. In January of 2014, MeLissa came on staff with GotQuestions.

MeLissa also has a freelance writing business and serves as a contract writer for other ministries and businesses.

MeLissa’s job: Code translated content, proofread book text, assign questions one day a week, write articles for GQKidz.org and GotQuestions.org.

Favorite part of her job: I enjoy answering people’s questions, especially when they ask me the most important question: “How can I go to heaven?” I also think the boss is pretty swell.

Things she likes to do: I enjoy fishing with my parents, tending my garden, hiking our beautiful Colorado mountains, and knitting. I also love leading the Awana ministry at my church.

Funny quirk: I can talk to anyone. My family says I should write a children’s book titled “MeLissa Makes a Friend” and they tease me about it every time they see me talking to a stranger.
