Domestic Violence Blog Request

September 11th, 2014

Between Ray and Janay Rice and a really odd question I got yesterday from a newlywed who punched her husband because “men need discipline,” I was thinking Blogos could use an article on domestic violence. Any takers? It could be from a biblical, counseling, and/or personal perspective. Pseudonyms welcome. Email me at you-know-what.

  • Gwen Sellers Great idea! As a side note, both GotQuestions and CompellingTruth have new articles up on domestic violence as of yesterday …
  • Lea Ann Davis McCombs Haha, yeah I got assigned that little jewel! It was all I could do not to answer with, “Are you insane?!”
  • Lea Ann Davis McCombs I’ll do the article if you like.
  • Steve Ray Webb I’m not volunteering, but just a quick comment, every Mother’s Day I hear a sermon about husbands needing to love their wives. Fair enough and totally correct. However, I seldom, if ever, hear a sermon about wives needing to respect their husbands (Eph. 5:33). It is every bit as much of a commandment.

  • Elizabeth DeVore Really? Because our pastor in Montana gave that little gem one Mothers’ Day. (He was going through a book and it didn’t click what he was preaching on until after the service.)

  • Marc Weiss Wow. I have a great marriage with no violence, so I am unqualified. I witnessed it as a kid, so I am VERY interested in the final result of the article.

  • NV Harder I hope the article points out the correlation between adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and domestic violence. Seehttps://www.childwelfare.gov/…/domesticviolenceb.cfm

  • Sarah Van Baale Many churches couple a “love your wife” sermon with a “respect your husband” sermon – especially since the “Love and Respect” book became so popular. But even so, if a husband doesn’t love his wife well or a wife doesn’t respect her husband well, it doesn’t excuse domestic violence or abuse.

  • NV Harder Exactly, Sarah. While following Christ’s example of integrity with Him being the head of His bride, the body of Christ of the assembled church, in a Christian household, the godly husband and the godly wife must be properly yoked together in like-hearSee More

  • Gwen Sellers Not about the love/respect issue, but a note on domestic violence. It is true that men are victims of domestic violence – including the physical forms – as well.
