Recently, several members of the Got Questions staff were able to accompany Compassion International on a trip to Sri Lanka. For those so inclined, we’d encourage you to check out Compassion in order to learn more about their efforts to release children from poverty in the name of Jesus Christ.
During this “vision trip,” Compassion’s impact was on full display. The itinerary included meetings with Compassion volunteers, staff, and some of the families touched by this ministry. The Got Questions team was blessed to meet with children who are part of Compassion’s child sponsorship program, to pray and worship with local believers, and even to meet Got Questions translators living on the other side of the world. During the Sunday morning portion of the trip, Kevin preached as a guest of a local church—a message given in English, and translated both into Tamil and Sinhala!
Other than some weather-related snags while leaving the US, everything went smoothly and the team returned safely. Beth, Dianna, and Gwen did a masterful job of keeping the ministry rolling while the majority of the staff was out of the country. Your prayers for their peace of mind did not go to waste! Prayers of praise, for a safe and successful experience, would be greatly appreciated.
Also, we’d ask you to pray for the continued efforts of Compassion in Sri Lanka. As some of you may know, the government of India recently restricted Christian charitable organizations, forcing Compassion out of their country, leaving many thousands of children without support. While Sri Lanka has yet to experience such trouble, there are legal issues brewing which could make evangelism and church life more difficult for believers there. Along with such prayers, please remember the frequent persecution of our brothers and sisters in Sri Lanka, as well as the needs of the country’s many poor and forgotten children.
